About

Menter Architects is a Seattle-based architectural design firm specializing in creating extraordinary custom homes and unique, thoughtfully designed spaces.

Our work evolves foremost from listening to and respecting each client’s unique vision, goals and aspirations for the project; carrying out a thoughtful assessment of the virtues and constraints of the specific site, existing structures and surrounding context, and drawing on our 35 years of experience in designing innovative, beautifully livable homes in the Pacific Northwest.

We enjoy the process of helping clients to envision the possibilities. Whether working in a traditional or modern character, we strive to tailor each design to the needs of the inhabitants and to create an architecture that is timeless and grounded in its place.

Our projects include design for new residences, remodels and additions, renovation and historic restoration, vacation retreats, and master site planning for large estates.

Our process is creative and collaborative.  Founded in 1990 by husband and wife team Margaret and Norm Menter, Menter Architects has been a collaborative effort ever since our early days as architecture students in Nebraska, London, Seattle, and Stockholm.

We believe in developing a strong relationship with our clients who are highly engaged throughout the design process. From feasibility analysis and early concept design, through the completion of construction, we remain closely involved with each project with close attention to detail and craft.

Accustomed to wearing many hats as a small design firm, we have also honed our ability to organize successful project teams, bringing a diverse and talented group of design professionals, contractors and craftspeople to the table to create a collaborative design process that results in highly successful projects.

Most of our residential work comes from repeat clients and word of mouth referrals from past clients, a testimony to the appreciation of our clients.  We look forward to discussing the possibilities of your next project together.
